Purpose of Writing : In a examination, nothing is written purposelessly. All the writing tasks have a specific purpose. Before writing an speech, make sure whether you are writing to inform people, to persuade them, to entertain them or to convince them.

Target Readers/Audience : Who are the potential readers/audience of your article or speech ? Are they students, educated people, experts on the subject of your write-up or laymen ?

Plan Before You Pen : Before you start writing, read the topic and accompanying instructions carefully. Make use of the given hints, notes, visual etc. Brainstorm for 3 to 5 minutes and note down as many ideas as you can think of.

Question : Your school has announced elections for the Junior Students House Council. You have filed in your nomination. Before the voting is done you are asked to give a speech in the morning assembly giving reasons why you should be selected as the captain of the school. Write your speech in not more than 150 words.

Answer :

Good Morning Everybody.

I am Ashutosh Jain of Class (Mention your class and section) and I am one of the contestants for the prestigious post of the School Captain. So as you know elections are round the corner and we all have to cast our vote. So this time I'm also one of the candidates for the school captain.

My dear friends I want to serve my Alma Mater. Therefore, I request all of you to repose faith in me and exercise your voting power most judiciously. If elected as the captain of the school, the first objective that I would like to achieve is to have a sense of discipline instilles in all my school mates. The good behaviour that is always expected of us should not be found lacking.

I assure all of you that there will be a proper co-ordination among the members of the School Cabinet and you will never find any of us failing in our duty. I would serve my school to the best of my ability. I promise that I would come up to your expectations.

Thank you.
